Otoplasty, or ear surgery, is a surgical procedure to correct the shape of the ear. Otoplasty can improve prominent ears by setting them back closer to the head, reduce the overall size of the ear, or reshape deformed areas of ear cartilage.

Ear surgery can also correct torn or stretched out earlobes due to the weight of earrings over time, or to reduce the length of the earlobe which is common with increasing age.

Dr. Vaca can perform elective ear surgery on children as young as 5 years of age and on adults. Ears are nearly fully grown by the age of 5. Surgery is generally performed early in children to avoid ridicule and self-confidence problems due to teasing.

During your consultation, Dr. Vaca will help answer your questions, explain the risks and benefits of surgery, and help determine if you are a good candidate for surgery.

If you are having surgery to correct prominent ears, an incision is placed behind the ear. If you are having surgery to correct an earlobe problem, then the incision is made in the earlobe.
